Despite a good outing by goalie Maxime Clermont and the
defence, the Olympiques still fell by a score of 2-0 to
the powerful Victoriaville Tigres this afternoon at the
Robert-Guertin Centre. A lack of finish around the net and
a Kevin Poulin in fine form also got the better of the Gatineau
attack.
The visitors opened the scoring after 5:43 of play in the
first period when Joël Champagne, from the left faceoff
circle, beat Maxime Clermont with a quick shot up high.
The Tigres double their lead at 12:51 of the second frame
thanks to a goal by Brandon Hynes on a powerplay. The latter
picked up a puck off the post redirecting it in an open
net.
At the other end of the ice, John Chabot’s met once again
had some nice sequences. However, the outstanding performance
of goalie Kevin Poulin, a lack of oppotunism as well a few
uncalled penalties by the officials contributed to silencing
them.
The Olympiques will play their next two outings this week
in Rimouski and then Shawinigan. They will be back to the
Robert-Guertin Centre on Sunday, March 14th at 4PM for the
last game of the regular season. Their opponents will be
the Val d’Or Foreurs.
