For the second consecutive preseason game, the Olympiques
bowed to the Montreal Junior. Benoît Groulx relatively experienced
squad was unable to find the back of the net against a Montreal
team made up primarily of rookies.
The visitors needed but 3 minutes and 47 seconds to open
the scoring. Following a turnover at the Olympiques blueline,
Alexandre Tremblay and Marc-Olivier Roy found themselves
alone in front of Maxime Clermont. Roy simply needed to
weakly push the puck into a net left wide open by the sprawled
out goaltender. The Olympiques veteran goaltender gave up
a second goal at 9:29 of the opening period when Jean-Christophe
Laflamme scored on a nice move off a breakaway.
Throughout the second and third frames, the Olympiques
obtained some nice scoring chances, each time lacking the
finish. The final nail in the Gatineau coffin came at 18:42
of the third period when Nicolas Parisella beat rookie goalie
Gabriel Carignan with a high wristshot.
The Olympiques will once again play at the Baribeau Arena
in Gatineau on Friday, August 27th at 7:00PM. The visitors
will be the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
